Matthew Mcconaughey and his new film “The sea of Trees” didn’t go so well in Cannes. A movie that was directed by Gus Van Sant (Palm D’Or for best director for Elephant) actually got booed at the festival.

The audience waited for the end of it, but still booed the movie. Naomi Watts came to festival with Matthew and both of them acted pretty cool about it. It could be coz they are professionals, but maybe it really does not bother them.

Movie is about a guy who came to “suicidal forest” near the Tokyo and mountain Fuji to end his life, because he can’t get over his wife dying. He finds man who has been injured, and by helping him to find the way out, he himself finds a way out his depression and suicidal tendencies. Matthew said even he was not sure about this film, but that he likes how it all ended. “There were many times during the making of this where I thought, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing. That frustrated me for a long time.”

But he ended this with:

“I like the film. I’m happy to be here, happy to be invited. Happy that the film got in. I liked the experience of making it, and I’m glad we got the opportunity to introduce it to the world. I’m working in the United States, but it’s exciting for me to come here and support work that got I to do with these people. This is fun. I look at this as sort of [eating] dessert. No matter what, we’ve declared now: here is is! Thanks for having us, hope you enjoy it.’’

And when reporters asked him about booing he simply replied: “Anyone has as much right to boo as they do to ovate.” You just have to love the man.
