Craig Strickland was a lead singer of a band called Backroad Anthem and he was only 29 years old. The terrible news was confirmed by his wife who shared heart breaking message on Twitter.
“#CraigStrickland was found today. He is safe with his Father in Heaven. Thank you Lord for leading us to him today. I will praise you, Amen.” Craig and his friend Chase Morland went duck hunting on December 27, while Storm Goliath was raging. Morland was found dead on December 28, 2015, he was just 21 years old at the time.
It sounds weird now, but Morland joked about their trip few hours before they set of, writing on his Tweeter account: “In case we don’t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma. #IntoTheStorm.” The Oklahoma Highway Patrol found Strickland’s body also near the Kaw Lake, on which their boat capsized. According to Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office the cause of death is drowning and exposure to freezing temperatures. However we will have to wait for the full autopsy for 4-8 weeks.
Their boat capsized the same day they went on the trip, while both of them were on it, as well as singer’s dog. According to the deputies the boat was too small to hold all three of them. After the authorities found the first body, Craig’s family hoped that he survived, because during the search they found his dog alive. But, he was not that lucky. According to TMZ his body was found “lying in the shape of a cross”. Since his body was found on the shore his wife Helen says he swam to the shore but hypothermia got him there.
