Uma Thurman (Uma Karuna Thurman) was born on April 29, 1970 Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Uma Thurman is an actress known for roles in such films as ‘Kill Bill’ and its sequel and ‘Pulp Fiction’.

After these magnificent performances she showed the world that she is indeed more than just a sexy and beautiful woman. She wonderfully made her way to maintain her career in Hollywood film industry without losing her identity or integrity.

Early life

Uma was born to Robert Alexander Farrar Thurman and Nena Birgitte Caroline von Schlebrugge. Her father was a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies at Columbia University and mother was Swedish model-turned-psychotherapist. They were a family who constantly relocated from one area to another. Acting then became her only solace to ease the tension within her since she could be someone other than herself.


New York talent scout told her to not quit her goals and to choose an acting career. Uma first appeared in ‘The Crucible’, a stage production of the movie. She made her film debut in ‘Kiss Daddy Goodnight’ (1987), a low budget film. Her first well-known role was as Venus in Terry Gilliams’s ‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen’ (1988). At age 18, she bared all in ‘Dangerous Liasons’ (1988), a big-budget movie and her co-stars were John Malkovich and Glenn Close.

The movie got a positive reviews from critics, even scored seven nominations at the 1989 Academy Awards. After she played a movie roles in many successful movies, she even got one step higher and played in a movie that has left a big mark on her career, ‘Pulp Fiction’ (1994). For her acting performance in that movie, she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award. In 2003, she starred in Quentin Tarantino’s two-volume epic ‘Kill Bill’ as a vengeful sword slashing assassin.

This extraordinary picture successfully directed her to secure a nomination in the category of Best Performance. 2008 prove to be quite a productive period for Uma. Adding three more stints into her resume namely ‘In Bloom’, ‘The Accidental Husband’ and ‘My Zinc Bed’, she also made her debut in producing films. Uma has definitely became of of the best and most unique actresses of Hollywood.

Personal life


Uma first fell in love with British actor Gary Oldman and subsequently married him in 1990. Sadly, this only lasted for about two years as they decided to split in 1992. In 1998, she married Ethan Hawke that was her co-star in ‘Gattaca’. In the same year they welcomed their first child, Maya and later a she gave birth to a son Roan. After 2 years the couple split up and she began dating her new boyfriend Arpad with who she also has a daughter.
