Cindy Crawford (Cynthia Ann Crawford) was born on February 20, 1966 in DeKalb, Illinois, USA. She is an American supermodel, TV personality and movie actress. She made a huge splash in the world modeling.

She earned nickname ‘Baby Gia’ because of her resemblance to the late supermodel Gia Carangi. She was walking down catwalks for the biggest fashion designers and posing as a cover girl for such fashion magazines as W, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Allure and Vogue. She had become a first member of the elite group of original supermodels.

Early life

Cindy was born to a John and Jennifer. Along with her brother, she grew up in a middle-class family. There were some dark times in their family: the divorce of her parents, and her brother’s death from leukemia, wich left a big trauma for the family. After she graduated on high school as her class valedictorian, she got a scholarship to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University. But she made a big career choice: she attended university only for a few months before dropping out to pursue modeling career.


Cindy was discovered by a newspaper photographer who noticed the then 16-year old hard at work during her summer job. Her photogenic talents were enough to convince her to quit her day job and take up modeling. After the arrival of Cindy, it was very normal to see models promoting a big variety of products beyond cosmetics and fashion. Cindy signed promoted for many famous brands and her deals were a multi-million dollars worth. Her debut movie appearance was in 1995, where she played in a movie ‘Fair Game’.

It wasn’t very well accepted by the audience and the critics but this did not discourage her from continuing to act. She appeared in episodes of ‘Frasier’, ‘3rd Rock From The Sun’, ‘According to Jim’ (ABC, 2001 -) in 2002, and in the ’80s New York fashion/party scene movie ’54’ (1998). In 1988, Crawford made more history as the first modern supermodel to appear in Playboy. She was America’s most celebrated fashion model and one of the most famous in the world.

Personal life

Cindy has been romantically linked to an actor John Enos III, Shaquille O’Neal, the basketball player and an actor Val Kilmer. In 1991, Cindy married actor Richard Gere after they have been dating for four years.


After Cindy has appeared on a controversial Vanity Fair cover with the openly lesbian singer, the couple was devastated with the by rumors about their homosexuality, wich was cause of their break up. In 1998 she met a businessman Rande Gerber and later the couple married. Also they have 2 children together. Because her brother died from leukemia, she devotes time to leukemia charities.
